A suspect was taken into custody Wednesday on suspicion of firing what appeared to be a flare gun in a Fountain Valley hospital Wednesday, but no one was hurt, police said.

Officers were sent about noon to MemorialCare Orange Coast Medical Center at 18111 Brookhurst St., said Fountain Valley police Chief Matt Sheppard.

“A suspect has been detained and taken into custody,” Sheppard said. “The subject fired what appears to be a flare gun in the air. The situation has been controlled at this point and there is no active shooter.”

Police did not immediately identify the male suspect or comment on a suspected motive.
