A motorist was killed Wednesday in a crash just north of Lake Mathews.
The fatality occurred about 7 a.m. on La Sierra Avenue, near Lake Crest Drive, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The driver was headed southbound on the four-lane corridor when he apparently lost control of the Honda Civic, which struck a roadside object. No other details were available.
The wreck happened less than a quarter-mile from a Riverside County Fire Department station, and a crew reached the location within a couple of minutes. The victim, whose name was not immediately released, was extricated from the sedan and pronounced dead at the scene.
La Sierra was partially shut down until about 9 a.m. while a preliminary investigation was conducted and the wreckage was cleared.
