Firefighters managed to extinguish a stubborn house fire Saturday in Boyle Heights, and arson investigators are examining the cause of the blaze, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

The fire inside a vacant bungalow at 328 N. Mathews St. was reported at 3:35 p.m., fire department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.

The bungalow had a double roof which severely hampered firefighter efforts to knock down the flames, Stewart said.

The department sent 31 firefighters to the scene and extinguished the flames in about one hour and 12 minutes, Stewart continued.

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was being examined by LAFD arson investigators, Stewart said.
