A motorist who was killed when his sedan plunged down an embankment alongside the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley and overturned into a ditch was identified Monday as a 43-year-old Perris man.
Frank Torres was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred about 4:40 p.m. Sunday on the westbound 60 near Hall Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Torres was traveling westbound when his car veered onto the right shoulder, went off the side and rolled at least once before coming to rest in a culvert at the bottom of the steep embankment, the CHP reported.
Several witnesses stopped to call 911, and Riverside County Fire Department crews reached the location within a few minutes and had to extricate the victim from the wreckage.
No lanes were closed because of the crash, which remains under investigation.
