Felony charges are expected to be filed Wednesday against a 27-year-old woman suspected of stabbing a man on a Banning street.
Salina Monica Ruiz of Banning was arrested Sunday and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility on suspicion of attempted murder for the alleged attack on Rigoberto Delgado.
Ruiz is being held without bail.
According to Banning police, patrol officers were called to the 900 block of West Hays Street, just north of Interstate 10, at about 11:40 a.m. to investigate reports of an assault and found Delgado suffering from a puncture wound to the chest.
The victim accused Ruiz of stabbing him, Banning Police Chief Matt Hamner said. The motive was not disclosed.
Hamner said Delgado was taken to Desert Regional Medical Center in Palm Springs for treatment.
Officers immediately fanned out and spotted the suspect in the 800 block of West Williams Street, about a block from where the alleged assault occurred, the chief said.
“Our officers immediately … made apprehension,” he said.
Ruiz was taken into custody without incident.
The victim remains in intensive care at Desert Regional.
