A 78-year-old man was fatally injured when the car he was driving collided with a pickup truck at a Riverside intersection, authorities said Wednesday.
The crash happened about 11 a.m. Tuesday at Main Street and Placentia Lane, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Erich Feimer said the victim, identified only as a Riverside resident, was going north on Main in his 1998 Toyota Camry, approaching Placentia, when a 21-year-old woman at the wheel of a 2016 Toyota Tacoma pulled onto Main from westbound Placentia.
Feimer said the woman, whose identity was not disclosed, yielded at the stop sign before turning onto the four-lane road. However, the vehicles impacted, and the Camry driver was gravely injured.
He was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he died a short time later while undergoing surgery, the sergeant said.
The Tacoma driver suffered minor injuries, but she declined to be taken to the hospital for treatment, according to Feimer.
“Drugs and alcohol are not believed to have been contributing factors,” he said.
The investigation is ongoing.
