A suspected drunken driver was arrested Thursday evening in Pomona a short distance from the scene of a hit-and-run crash that sent two people to a hospital, including a child.
Officers responded to the crash at Mission Boulevard and Towne Avenue at 8 p.m. and determined the suspect had left the scene, according to Sergeant Padilla of the Pomona Police Department.
The suspect, identified as Alejandro Aviles of Etiwanda, was spotted by officers and short foot chase began. Aviles tossed away a gun while running and was captured a few blocks away from the crash scene, Padilla said.
The driver of the other vehicle and a child were taken to a hospital in unknown condition, Padilla said.
Aviles was booked on suspicion of DUI, unlawful possession of a firearm and a high capacity magazine.
