A 27-year-old homeless man who ran from authorities in Irwindale, then fought with officers when they caught up with him, was struck with a taser then arrested early Monday morning.
Police responded about 1:20 a.m. to reports of a shirtless man chasing employees through a parking lot at an office complex in the 14000 block of Live Oak Avenue, near Stewart Avenue, then breaking into an empty guard shack on the property, according to Sgt. Rudy Gatto of the Irwindale Police Department.
The first officers on scene found the suspect still inside the guard shack and ordered him to surrender, but he ran off and officers chased the suspect and caught up to him a short time later, but he fought with police and a Taser device was used to subdue the suspect, Gatto said.
Officers arrested Chad Matthew Trager of Santa Monica on suspicion of burglary and resisting arrest.
“Because of Los Angeles County jail housing restrictions due to COVID-19, suspect Trager was issued a citation to appear in court on the charges and he was released from custody,” Gatto said.
No officers or civilians were injured in the incident and the property owner later boarded up the damaged guard shack.
