Two motorists were arrested on suspicion of racing after going nearly double the speed limit in Glendale, police said Friday.
On Tuesday, Christina Keshishian, 20, of Burbank, and Gagik Manukyan, 19, of Glendale, were traveling about 75 mph, side-by-side eastbound on Glenoaks Boulevard, near Highland Avenue, where the speed limit is 40 mph, according to Sgt. C. Hauptmann of the Glendale Police Department.
Keshishian had three passengers in the car, and Manukyan had a minor in the passenger seat, Hauptmann said.
The two drivers were arrested on suspicion of participating in an illegal speed contest, and both vehicles were impounded, according to Hauptmann.
Authorities encouraged drivers to monitor their speeds, especially with less traffic on the roads during the restrictions prompted by the coronavirus pandemic.
