A 25-year-old probationer with a violent past who was recently released from jail was arrested Wednesday in Riverside after he offered to sell stolen camera equipment to the owner of the recently-robbed business.

The owner was walking in the area of 14th and Market streets about 10 a.m. when the suspect approached him and offered to sell him the stolen equipment, which the owner recognized as his. The owner returned to his business in the 4300 block of Market Street and verified a break-in had occurred, according to the Riverside Police Department.

The owner walked back to the intersection and tried to detain the suspect, identified as Johnny Angel Robles of Indio, after calling police, police said.

Officers arrived at the scene and as they approached Robles, he ran off and officers chased and cornered him in a fenced area nearby, then safely arrested him, police said.

A records check showed Robles is on probation for violence against the police and other theft, drug and resisting arrest violations and had recently been released from jail due to current laws and state orders, the department said.

Robles was booked into jail on suspicion of commercial burglary and probation violations. He was being held on $10,000 bail for the probation violation.
