An outside fire spread into a church in downtown Los Angeles Tuesday evening, but no injuries were reported.
The fire broke out about 8:30 p.m. near the Saint Turibius Roman Catholic Church in the 1500 block of South Essex Street, near the Santa Monica (10) Freeway, according to Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The fire spread into the church’s walls, floor and attic spaces, Prange said.
Thirty-six firefighters extinguished the fire in about 40 minutes and no injuries were reported.
Arson detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze, as is routine for all house of worship fires, Prange said.
