A 22-year-old arson suspect was arrested after he was found by a police drone during a search in Irvine, police said Thursday.

Kaveh Shahriari allegedly started fires in several residential trash cans on Rembrandt, near the intersection of Jeffrey and Irvine boulevards, about 2:35 a.m. Wednesday, according to Irvine police Sgt. Karie Davies. A nearby silver SUV, which was parked on the street, was damaged by the heat.

While officers were responding to the fires on Rembrandt, a resident on Parkdale, about a quarter-mile from Rembrandt, called police about another trash can fire, Davies said. That resident chased the suspect but lost sight of him.

Police set up a perimeter and deployed a drone to search for the suspect, and it found him in the backyard of a residence on Wyndover, Davis said.

Shahriari was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the Orange County Jail.
