The pursuit of motorist suspected of assaulting a police officer with a deadly weapon lasted about 15 minutes before he was taken into custody in the Hyde Park area.
The chase began at 9:56 p.m. and ended about 10:10 p.m. near the intersection of Slauson and Victoria avenues. The location where the pursuit began and details of the assault were not immediately disclosed by Los Angeles police.
The suspect circled an area around Crenshaw Boulevard and Slauson for most of the pursuit, briefly entering the Hawthorne area.
He hit a spike strip deployed by officers and continued on for a short distance before stopping near Slauson and Victoria, where he got out of the sedan and walked around, alternating hands up and hands down. He then sat on the hood of the car, then ran from officers, but was quickly taken into custody.
A bean bag round was fired at the suspect, Fox 11 reported.
No injuries were immediately reported.
