Two men who were reportedly walking home from a large protest in the downtown Los Angeles area were targeted in a drive-by shooting that left one victim dead and the other hospitalized.
The shooting occurred about 10:10 p.m. Thursday at Cesar Chavez and Bunker Hill avenues, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.
According to police, the men were standing in the area when shots were fired at them by one or more suspects in a passing vehicle, which sped off. No suspect or vehicle descriptions were released.
The wounded men were taken to a hospital, where one died. His name was withheld, pending notification of his relatives. The other man, whose name was not released, was in stable condition, police said.
According to Fox11, the shooting occurred as the victims were walking home from a protest in the downtown area that attracted thousands of demonstrators.
Police said the crime occurred in a relatively deserted area, and the shooting did not appear to be related to the protest.
