A 25-year-old San Bernardino County man pleaded not guilty Friday to murdering a convenience store clerk during a robbery in Whittier.

Kevin Karnell Hall of Apple Valley is charged with the Feb. 22 killing of Maninder Singh during a robbery Feb. 22 at a 7-Eleven store in the 8400 block of Santa Fe Springs Road.

The murder charge includes the special-circumstance allegations of murder during the commission of a robbery and murder for financial gain, Santiago said.

“Surveillance video showed the suspect had entered the store, demanded money from the clerk and subsequently shot and killed the clerk,” police said.

Hall is also facing six counts of second-degree robbery — one involving Singh, a married father of two small children, and the others involving alleged victims on Feb. 9 and Feb. 22.

Prosecutors will decide later whether to seek the death penalty against Hall, who was arrested March 10 by Whittier police. He remains jailed without bail.
