A robbery victim followed a suspect’s vehicle from East Hollywood to a freeway off-ramp in Van Nuys where the suspect crashed and fled, authorities said.

The robbery was reported at 10:10 a.m. at Normandie and Melrose avenues, in East Hollywood according to Officer J. Chaves of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

Although no details were immediately available regarding what was allegedly stolen or how, Chaves said the victim — going against police advice — followed the suspect’s vehicle from the scene of the crime.

The suspect then crashed the vehicle on the off-ramp from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway at Victory Boulevard and ran from the scene, he said.

One male suspect was quickly taken into custody, Chaves said. An initial perimeter search was underway for possible accomplices, but none were found and the search was called off.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting down the off-ramp at 11:10 a.m. and canceled it about 1 p.m.
