A robbery victim followed two suspects in a vehicle from East Hollywood to a freeway off-ramp in Van Nuys where the suspects crashed and fled, authorities said.

The robbery was reported at 10:10 a.m. at Normandie and Melrose avenues, in East Hollywood according to Officer J. Chaves of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Section.

Although no details were immediately available regarding what was stolen or how, Chaves said the victim — going against police advice — followed the suspects from the scene of the crime.

The suspects then crashed their vehicle on the off-ramp from the northbound San Diego (405) Freeway at Victory Boulevard and ran from the scene, he said.

One suspect was quickly taken into custody while a perimeter search was underway for the second, Chaves said.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert shutting down the off-ramp at 11:10 a.m. and canceled it about 1 p.m.
