A man who allegedly stabbed a clerk to death at a gas station convenience store in Maywood has been arrested, authorities said Wednesday.
The stabbing was reported at about 5:30 a.m. at an ARCO am/pm in the 4700 block of Slauson Avenue, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
The female victim, reportedly in her 30s, died at a hospital. Her name was withheld pending notification of her relatives.
The suspect, described in broadcast reports as a transient, was taken into custody after being detained by other people inside the business, authorities said. His name was not immediately released.
Deputies went to the scene on a report that a man was being combative and belligerent, KTLA5 reported.
“When deputies arrived, the suspect was still fighting with the customers, and deputies were able to detain him,” sheriff’s Lt. Barry Hall said. “Once they had him outside detained, they were directed back inside the store to a female clerk who had been stabbed multiple times behind the counter. She was … down on the floor behind the counter.”
Sheriff’s homicide detectives were investigating the case.
Anyone with information on the attack was urged to call the Sheriff’s Homicide Bureau at 323-890-5500, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
