A 56-year-old man was killed Tuesday in a collision between a private bus and a pickup truck at a Riverside intersection.
The crash happened about 11:30 a.m. at Barton Street and Krameria Avenue, in the Orangecrest area of the city, according to the Riverside Police Department.
Sgt. Erich Feimer said the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was driving his 1998 Ford bus south on Barton when a 20-year-old man at the wheel of a 2000 Toyota Tundra approached from the opposite direction.
The Toyota driver, who also was not identified, initiated a left turn to head westbound on Krameria, Feimer said.
“The bus entered the intersection at the same time as the Toyota, and the vehicles collided,” the sergeant said.
He said the bus driver was ejected onto the roadway, suffering major head trauma and other injuries. Paramedics reached the location within a few minutes and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
The Toyota driver suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Riverside Community Hospital for treatment.
The collision remains under investigation.
