Five people, including a child, were hurt Monday in a possible DUI wrong-way crash in Costa Mesa involving eight vehicles.

The victims, including one who had to be extricated from the wreckage, were rushed to area trauma centers, said Costa Mesa Fire Capt. Joseph Noceti. One victim was a child, said Roxi Fyad of the Costa Mesa Police Department.

A driver who may have been driving under the influence was going the wrong way on Newport Boulevard, triggering the crash about 10:48 a.m. at 19th Street, Fyad said.
