A motorist was killed Tuesday when he crashed into a tree just north of the Pomona (60) Freeway in Jurupa Valley.

The accident happened at about 2:25 a.m. on Mission Boulevard, near the 60, on the west side of the city, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Luke Torres said that the victim, whose identity was not immediately released, was at the wheel of a compact car when he apparently lost control and plowed into a tree along the roadside.

Paramedics arrived within a few minutes and pronounced the man dead at the scene.

“At this time, it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were a factor in this collision,” Torres said.

No other vehicles were involved.

Anyone with information about the crash was encouraged to contact the sheriff’s Jurupa Valley station at 951-955-2600.
