A 34-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday following a five-hour standoff with sheriff’s deputies who were responding to a vandalism call in Palm Desert.
Elizabeth Gaitan of Palm Desert was taken into custody at 3:15 p.m. without incident and booked at the Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of vandalism and criminal threats, according to Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro.
Deputies responded to a call at about 9:50 a.m. in the 45000 block of Driftwood Drive to a report of a vandalism in progress, according to Pecoraro.
When deputies arrived, Gaitan was holed up inside, reportedly packing an unspecified weapon. It remains unclear whether sheriff’s deputies located a weapon following the standoff.
Additional information, including whether anybody else was inside, was not provided.
