A convicted felon suspected of stealing thousands of dollars worth of property from a Lake Elsinore storage unit, as well as possessing a variety of ammunition, was out of custody Friday.
Louis Rincon, 32, was arrested Tuesday on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property, conspiracy and being a felon in possession of ammunition. He was released on his own recognizance Wednesday.
According to Riverside County sheriff’s Sgt. Jeff Reese, toward the end of July, a man leasing a unit at Extra Space Storage in the 18000 block of Collier Avenue, near Highway 74, reported a break-in and the loss of roughly $3,000 in equipment and other property.
The theft occurred in the D row of the storage facility, where Rincon also had a unit under lease, Reese said.
Detectives identified Rincon as the alleged burglar within a week, and a search warrant was obtained and served at his storage unit on July 30, Reese said.
“Deputies located the victim’s stolen items inside Rincon’s locker and recovered them,” Reese said. “Also located inside the locker were different types of ammunition, which Rincon is prohibited from possessing.”
An additional search warrant was served at Rincon’s residence at the intersection of Joy and Machado streets in Lake Elsinore, where Rincon was taken into custody without incident.
Anyone with information about the burglary and theft was asked to contact the sheriff’s Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3300.
