Investigators Friday were working to determine what happened prior to a traffic collision that involved a 26-year-old gunshot victim, who was apparently wounded prior to the crash and later pronounced dead at a local hospital.

The two-vehicle crash was reported at 11:17 p.m. Thursday at Chapman Avenue and Tustin Street, said Lt. Jennifer Amat of the Orange Police Department. Police arrived to find the gunshot victim in one of the cars with multiple other people, she said.

No one was injured in the crash, but the as-yet unidentified gunshot wound victim was rushed to an area hospital, where he died, Amat said.

“We don’t believe the (driver) of the other vehicle was our suspect. It was unrelated to the shooting,” Amat said. “And there is no indication the shooting happened at Tustin and Chapman.”
