An 83-year-old man seated in a parked vehicle in Tujunga was fatally injured Monday when it was rammed by another car whose driver was arrested after running from the scene and then returning, police said.
The crash was reported at 1:45 a.m. in the 7100 block of Foothill Boulevard, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Davit Davtyan, 21, of Los Angeles was booked on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter, said LAPD Officer William Cooper of the Media Relations office.
Benito So Jr. died at the scene, according to the coroner’s office. The fatally injured man may have been homeless and sleeping in the vehicle, according to reports from the scene.
According to the preliminary investigation, Davtyan was driving north on Foothill Boulevard when his vehicle hit the parked vehicle, Cooper said. Davtyan allegedly ran from the scene, and then returned and was arrested, he said.
Detectives from the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division were investigating.
