Three pursuit suspects in their 20s were arrested Thursday after running from their vehicle in Culver City, prompting a search.
The suspects were westbound “at a high rate of speed” in a white Mercedes-Benz SUV on the Santa Monica (10) Freeway in the central Los Angeles area about 10:10 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.
A CHP motorcycle officer attempted to pull over the vehicle, but the suspects sped up and drove “erratically through traffic and along the right shoulder before exiting the freeway at Washington Boulevard,” the CHP said.
They drove southbound on Washington Boulevard then turned west onto Wesley Street, where they came to a cul-de-sac and abandoned the car to run away, according to the CHP.
The three ran in different directions as they approached the intersection of National Boulevard and Helms Avenue, and the Culver City Police Department assisted in establishing a three-block perimeter to conduct a search, the CHP said.
Jesus Miguel Pena Suero, 21, of Puerto Rico, was arrested at 11:05 a.m., Sharif Devante Escoffery, 26, of New York, was arrested at 11:45 a.m., and Trayquan Calvin Wright, 24, of New York, was arrested at noon, according to the CHP, which also reported that a loaded handgun was recovered.
