Police circulated photos Monday of a 25-year-old man who allegedly abducted his 6-year-old son during a supervised visitation set up by the child’s grandfather, who has full custody of the boy.

At about 4 p.m. Sunday, Rodney Dorsett Jr. met with his father, Rodney Dorsett Sr., at a nearby market located at Redondo and Washington boulevards to allow his son to spend time with Chance Dorsett, the suspect’s son, the Los Angeles Police Department reported.

“The grandfather allowed his son, Rodney Jr., to take Chance and spend time with him. Hours went by and Chance was not returned,” according to a police statement.

The elder Dorsett made several attempts to contact his son via cell phone, before calling police for assistance.

The younger Dorsett is believed to be traveling by bus, police said. He has family in Texas and might be headed in that direction.

Rodney Dorsett Jr. was described as a 5-feet-9-inch tall black man with brown hair and brown eyes weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Chance Dorsett was described as a 5-feet black male weighing approximately 90 pounds with brown eyes and black hair. He was last seen wearing a navy-blue shirt with tan polka dots and tan shorts.

The LAPD’s Wilshire station urged anyone with information regarding the pair’s whereabouts to call them at 213-473-0467 or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
