A 27-year-old man suspected of robbing a Moreno Valley convenience store at gunpoint was released from custody Thursday after posting a $30,000 bond.

Davon Dewon Lawler of Perris was arrested Wednesday and booked into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of robbery and vandalism. He made bail and was let out Thursday morning.

The alleged holdup occurred about 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 30 at a Circle K in the 12000 block of Frederick St., near Sunnymead Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.

Sgt. Ryan Marcuse alleged Lawler, wearing a dark-colored hoodie and mask, approached the clerk, pulled a handgun from under his clothes, “racked the gun and demanded money.”

The victim complied, handing over an undisclosed amount of cash, Marcuse said.

He said the suspect fled the location before patrol deputies arrived, but that detectives obtained images from the Citywide Camera System and other evidence at the scene that ultimately pointed to Lawler as the robber.

An arrest warrant was obtained and served on him in Perris, where he was taken into custody without a struggle.

No information was available regarding possible prior criminal history.
