Several hikers stranded by a brushfire in Brentwood Saturday were helped to safety by firefighters.

The stubborn fire in the Santa Monica Mountains began about 6:35 p.m. near the Sullivan Fire Road in Rustic Canyon, and took about three hours to put out, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Brian Humphrey.

More than 80 firefighters were assisted by LAFD water-dropping helicopters and one county fire helicopter, plus hand crews to try and corral the flames, Humphrey said.

An evacuation was not required. No injuries were reported and no structures were impacted. However, the blaze blackened about a half-acre of grass, according to the LAFD.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
