A 33-year-old Palm Springs man who allegedly kidnapped his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint while out on bail in a separate spousal abuse case was being sought by police Thursday.
Manuel Tamayo Valadez allegedly drove the unidentified victim around the Coachella Valley on Wednesday and “fired one round from the weapon while threatening the victim,” according to the Palm Springs Police Department.
Valadez’s car broke down near the Costco on Dinah Shore Drive, where the victim was able to escape and call 911, police said. Valadez ran off and should be considered armed and dangerous, police said.
At the time of the alleged kidnapping, Valadez was on bail stemming from an arrest on Sept. 8 in Palm Springs, according to police Lt. William Hutchinson.
He was arrested on East Via Escuela on suspicion of spousal abuse and violating a domestic violence protective order, and released later that day after making $50,000 bail, jail records show.
He was not charged in the case as of noon Thursday, although jail records indicated he was scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6.
Police did not specify whether the incidents were linked.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts was asked to call 911 and not approach the suspect.
