A 24-year-old male pedestrian was fatally struck by at least two vehicles when he stopped in the middle of a street in Long Beach, police said Sunday.

He was crossing diagonally across the intersection of South Street and Cerritos Avenue when he stopped in the middle of westbound South Street waiting for eastbound traffic to clear, the Long Beach Police Department reported.

While standing in the road, he was struck by a 2011 Toyota Camry and then by a westbound 2005 Nissan Quest. Neither motorist saw him, police said.

Officers were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 7:15 p.m. Saturday, where both drivers remained at the location and cooperated with police.

Paramedics rushed the 24-year-old man to an area hospital, where he died as a result of his injuries. Neither distracted or impaired driving were considered factors in the crash.

The LBPD’s Collision Investigation Detail urged anyone who saw the crash to call them at 562-570-5520.
