A solo-vehicle traffic crash in Anaheim Sunday evening left the driver dead and his passenger critically injured.
The crash happened about 7:30 p.m. near the intersection of Beach and Stonybrook Drive, and shut down all northbound lanes of Beach from Ball Road to Orange Avenue, according to Anaheim police Sgt. Shane Carringer.
“The vehicle hit a power pole at a high rate of speed that split the vehicle in half,” Carringer said. “The driver died at the scene and his passenger was critically injured and transported to a local hospital.”
He said police did not yet know if alcohol or drugs were factors.
The driver’s name will be withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
It was unknown how long the road closures will remain in effect.
The crash was under investigation, he said.
