A 20-year-old man accused of murdering another man near Blythe remained jailed Sunday without bail.
Deputies received an assault with a deadly weapon call at 8:25 a.m. Saturday in the 17500 block of Palowalla Road, but by the time they arrived at the scene the people involved had left the area, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly afterward, authorities received word that a person had been taken to a nearby hospital for injuries inflicted in an assault, according to Sgt. Richard Carroll.
“Despite life-saving efforts by medical personnel, the victim died due to his injuries,” he said.
The victim was identified as Victor Hernandez, 22, of Blythe.
Investigators identified the suspect as Brandon Hernandez, 20, also of Blythe, who was later arrested and booked into the Blythe Jail on suspicion of murder.
Authorities said the victim and suspect are not related, and a motive for the homicide was not disclosed.
