The Manhattan Beach Police Department sought pubic help Wednesday to identify a suspect or suspects of two recent nighttime burglaries that occurred about a block away from each other.

The first burglary occurred about 1:15 a.m. Saturday at a home in the 1500 block of Gates Avenue, near South Peck Avenue, according to Sgt. Tim Zins. Officers, who were called to the scene by an alarm, arrived to find the male suspect standing by stairs near the front door, and he fled when officers gave him verbal commands to try to detain him.

He was described as 5-feet-7 inches to 6-feet tall, with a medium build, Zins said. He was wearing all black clothing.

The second burglary occurred Tuesday at about 9:30 p.m. in the 1500 block of First Street, also near South Peck Avenue and about a block away from the first burglary.

The residents were home when the suspect climbed onto a second-story balcony and smashed a window, according to Zins. The suspect fled before officers could arrive, and no suspect description was available.

Police are increasing their nighttime patrols throughout Manhattan Beach and “especially this area,” Zins said. Anyone with information about the suspect or suspects was urged to call Detective Jennifer Leach at 310-802-5125.
