A 22-year-old Pomona man who was drinking in public with an alleged “documented gang member” was arrested for possessing a 9mm handgun in public, authorities said Friday.
The two were drinking in a vehicle about 11:30 p.m. Thursday near Abbey Lane and Karesh Avenue, according to the Pomona Police Department.
Pomona Police Department Major Crimes Task Force officers “were conducting proactive patrols in an area recently affected by a number of gang-related shootings,” and saw the men in the vehicle, police said
One of the men, Anthony Alvitre, told officers that he had a loaded firearm, according to police.
They recovered a loaded 9mm handgun from the car and arrested Alvitre for possessing the weapon in public, police said.
