Police Sunday were searching for the burglars who stole thousands of dollars worth of equipment from a veterans service organization in Riverside.
Burglars took two statues and numerous large trash cans containing tools valued around $25,000 from the American Legion Post 289 on Saturday, according to Riverside Police Officer Ryan Railsback.
He said the burglary occurred between 4:15 a.m. and 5:30 a.m. and the suspects placed the stolen items in a dark-colored SUV and fled after the crime.
Security footage shows the suspects entering the building multiple times to remove items.
The manager of the facility reported the burglary at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday.
“They took everything. Who steals from veterans?” post commander Michael Buchner told CBS2.
A GoFundMe page set up for Post 289 says the facility was being remodeled and that the organization is volunteer-run.
“Last night our post was burglarized and we lost materials and most of our tools,” the page says. As of noon Sunday, the page had collected $2,425 of its $28,900 goal.
