A gunfight between Los Angeles police officers and a suspect at a Ralphs supermarket in Granada Hills wounded both an officer and the alleged gunman, who was later arrested.
The shooting happened about 6:30 p.m. Sunday in a shopping center at Balboa Boulevard and Devonshire Street, according to the LAPD and media reports from the scene.
According to police, officers responded to the Ralphs after a man was reported to be causing a disturbance inside. Officers entered and confronted him, resulting in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect then fled the store and hid in a nearby store before surrendering to police about 45 minutes later.
One officer was wounded and transported to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening wounds, Los Angeles Fire Department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart said.
Police said that the LAFD also transported the suspect from the scene for a medical evaluation despite not being hit by gunfire.
No other injuries were reported, and the suspect’s name was not immediately released.
