A Silver Alert was issued this evening for a 79-year-old man who suffers from dementia and went missing in Carson.

Demetrio Puentes Cordero was last seen at about 6 p.m. Monday in the 17800 block of South Lysander Drive, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. He was wearing a black fedora, a green, striped long-sleeve shirt, khaki pants and brown sandals.

Cordero is described as Hispanic, 4 feet, 8 inches tall, 140 pounds, with brown eyes and straight white hair, the department said.

The California Highway Patrol issued a Silver Alert in Los Angeles, Orange, Ventura and Riverside counties on Tuesday night. Anyone with information about Cordero’s whereabouts was urged to call the sheriff’s Missing Persons Unit at 323-890-5500. Those wishing to report anonymously can call 800-222-TIPS.

The Silver Alert program was established to issue and coordinate alerts involving the unexplained or suspicious disappearance of elderly, developmentally disabled and cognitively impaired individuals.
