An unlawful assembly was declared Tuesday evening and several people were detained at a demonstration against Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey outside Staples Center.

Fox11 reported from the scene that several people were being detained, but the reason for their detention was not immediately clear. The Los Angeles Police Department called the crowd “large and unruly.”

Shortly after 8 p.m., dozens of protesters marched away from Staples Center eastbound on Venice Boulevard and later westbound on Washington Boulevard.

Lacey is seeking a third term in Tuesday’s election, facing former San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon.

Early vote totals released shortly before 8:30 p.m. showed Gascon leading 56.78%-43.22%. These totals represent more than 2 million votes, with record numbers of vote-by-mail and early ballots counted.
