A pursuit suspect crashed into multiple cars, including a sheriff’s department vehicle, before running across the Long Beach (710) Freeway in Bell Gardens, where he was taken into custody Friday evening.
The suspect drove through the South Gate area, blowing through multiple red lights at high speeds. The suspect backed up into a sheriff’s department patrol car about 9:30 p.m. near Atlantic and Florence avenues, where a passenger exited and ran from the suspect vehicle.
Shortly after, the suspect, driving at high speeds on Florence Avenue, crashed head-on into another vehicle, causing his hood fold up over the windshield.
The suspect continued driving at high speeds and attempted to get onto the freeway, where he crashed into a wall and ran into traffic.
He then climbed up a hill near the southbound side of the freeway, then surrendered to deputies, who took him into custody about 9:35 p.m.
It was not immediately clear why deputies from the Sheriff’s Century Station began pursuing the suspect. The time and location the chase started was not available. KTLA-TV Channel 5 reported that the vehicle was stolen.
