Protest Held Outside Garcetti’s Official Residence for Eighth Consecutive Day

A protest was held outside Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s official residence Tuesday for the eighth consecutive day in an attempt to persuade President-elect Joe Biden not to appoint Garcetti to his cabinet.

Demonstrators, including one dressed as the Grinch, marched on the sidewalk across South Irving Boulevard in Windsor Square as Los Angeles Police Department officers stood in front of Getty House.

“We’re out here because Biden and (Vice President-elect Kamala) Harris are trying to give Garcetti a cabinet position when he can’t even keep up with L.A.” 17-year-old Kahlila Williams said through a bullhorn.

“Ever since he has been mayor, homelessness has increased and they want to put him on housing,” she said. “We have the worst transportation system and they want to put him on transportation as a possibility. We won’t stand for that.”

There was no immediate reply from Garcetti’s office to an email seeking a response to Williams’ comments.

Black Lives Matter-Los Angeles and Ground Game LA have vowed to conduct a demonstration every day until Biden commits to not appointing Garcetti to the cabinet. They are critical of Garcetti’s handling of homelessness, public transportation and other issues.

Garcetti has repeatedly said he has not sought a position with the incoming Biden administration.
