A driver believed to have been intoxicated crashed early Sunday morning in Moreno Valley and was hospitalized in critical condition, sheriff’s officials said.
The solo-vehicle crash occurred at around 2:40 a.m. when the driver of a Toyota Avalon lost control while speeding through a curve on southbound Gilman Springs Road south of Alessandro Boulevard, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
The vehicle left the roadway and smashed into a concrete structure in a nearby field, Sgt. Robert Grmusha said.
The driver, who was not named, suffered major injuries and remained hospitalized in critical condition, according to Grmusha.
“Alcohol and or drugs were considered to be a suspected factor in the collision,” he said.
