A man died Friday when he was struck while standing on a dirt embankment on the side of the Harbor (110) Freeway in the Watts area.
The crash occurred at 2:53 p.m. on the southbound side of the freeway at the Century Boulevard off-ramp, California Highway Patrol Officer S. Brown said.
A 23-year-old Los Angeles man driving a 2015 Nissan Altima was in the exit lane when the car veered off the pavement into the side dirt embankment, crashing into a raised concrete curb, multiple trees and the pedestrian, Brown said.
The pedestrian, described as a 50-year-old Los Angeles man, died at the scene, the officer said.
The Nissan driver suffered an abrasion to a lip and pain in his chest. There was no indication that he was transported to a hospital for treatment or arrested.
The cause of the crash remained under investigation, Brown said.
