A man killed at an illegal street racing event in Carson was a Long Beach resident.

Daniel Patten Jr. was 66, according to the Los Angeles County coroner’s office.

Patten died on Christmas Day after a car lost control and veered into spectators at about 1:30 p.m. near East 230th and Banning streets, said Deputy Eric Ortiz of the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department’s Information Bureau.

A black Cadillac sedan racing a blue car are seen crashing into each other near a crowd of people in footage posted to social media. A man is seen leaning over an apparently injured man wearing black pants in another video recorded near the crash site, Ortiz said.

Several people were hurt, and a man, now identified as Patten, was struck by a vehicle and died at the scene, Ortiz said.

The current conditions of the injured people were not released.

No arrests have been made so far in connection with the fatal crash. A suspect description was not available from the LASD.

Patten was a photographer and videographer, according to CBS2, which reported that his girlfriend and other friends held a vigil in his memory Saturday night.

“Nobody tried to render any aid,” a friend of Patten’s told CBS2. “I don’t know if it was even possible because of how devastating his injuries were, but just the fact no one took the time to call 911 is really sad.”
