A documented gang member on parole was arrested in Thermal Tuesday on suspicion of committing an armed robbery in Coachella, authorities said.
Jose Juan Gaytan, 40, of Thermal was booked into the John Benoit Detention Center in Indio on suspicion of robbery and possessing methamphetamine for sale, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Sgt. Mariano Matos III said deputies arrested Gaytan during the service of a search warrant about 7 a.m. at a house in the 85200 block of Avenue 55.
The investigation stemmed from an armed robbery reported Dec. 27, 2020, in the 53500 block of Cesar Chavez in Coachella, Matos said.
Deputies found stolen property and methamphetamine thought to be for sale during their search, the sergeant said.
Gaytan has felony convictions in Riverside County, including robbery, kidnapping and evading arrest, court records show. He has an unresolved felony case from last year on a charge of possessing a controlled substance for sale, records show.
