A pedestrian fatally struck by an SUV in Bermuda Dunes was identified Friday as 48-year-old Palm Desert resident.
Regina Avila suffered fatal injuries at 5:25 p.m. at the intersection of Washington Street and Hidden River Road, according to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputies sent to the scene found the victim in the roadway. Despite first responders’ attempts to save her, Avila was pronounced dead at the scene, sheriff’s Sgt. Deanna Pecoraro said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and is not thought to have been intoxicated at the time of the crash, the sergeant said.
The California Highway Patrol reported the involved vehicle was a Chevrolet Tahoe.
The flow of traffic in the area was hampered for several hours while investigators worked the scene.
Additional details surrounding the circumstances of the collision have not been released.
