Felony charges were filed Wednesday against a 34-year-old man who allegedly stabbed his 80-year-old father with a sword in Laguna Hills before holding off sheriff’s deputies for hours.
Joseph Hargrove was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and inflicting injury on an elder adult, and also faces sentencing enhancement allegations of inflicting great bodily injury on the victim and inflicting injury on an elder adult at least 70 years old, according to court records.
Orange County sheriff’s deputies responded just before 3 p.m. Monday to a disturbing the peace call, said Orange County sheriff’s Sgt. Dennis Breckner.
The father told deputies that his son stabbed him in the forearm with a sword, according to Breckner, who said the wound was superficial.
Hargrove refused to leave the house and surrender to deputies, he said, About 8:15 p.m., deputies entered the residence with a search warrant and took the suspect into custody without incident, Breckner said.
Deputies were “familiar” with the house as there had been calls for service there before, he said.
