A 41-year-old man was arrested Thursday on suspicion of raping an unconscious victim, who police discovered dead behind a shopping mall in Pomona earlier this week.

Jerome Dandre Perrin was taken into custody about 10:30 a.m. and booked into the Pomona City Jail on suspicion of rape of an unconscious person, kidnapping with intent to commit rape, oral copulation of an unconscious person and sexual penetration with a foreign object of an unconscious person, according to the Pomona Police Department.

Police said the victim was found dead Tuesday behind the Rio Rancho Mall, at 2001 S. Garey Ave.

It’s unclear how the person died or when the alleged sexual assault took place.

“The investigation into the death of the victim remains on-going and the results from the LA County Coroner’s Office investigation is pending,” the department said in a news release.

Police said it was unknown “to what extent drugs or alcohol may have played in the victim’s death.”

Perrin may have known the victim, according to police.

Authorities said the incident appears to have been an isolated event, and that it has “no reason to believe there is a serial rapist in Pomona” as some rumors on social media have claimed.

Perrin is being held on $1 million bail, records show.
