Authorities Friday identified a North Hollywood man who was fatally shot in Van Nuys, and continued their efforts to solve the crime.
The shooting occurred about 2 a.m. Wednesday near Peach and Hart streets, Officer Lizeth Lomeli of the Los Angeles Police Department said.
Garrett Quintanilla, 34, died at the scene, the coroner’s office reported.
Officers went to the area in response to 911 calls of shots fired, Lomeli said.
Quintanilla was found about six feet away from a black BMW SUV that had just crashed into a fence, its engine still running, police said.
“Detectives believe the SUV is connected to the victim, a nearby home may have been a part of the incident, and that the incident is possibly drug-related,” according to an LAPD statement.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call Detective Steve Castro at 818-374-1925. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
