A 28-year-old man suspected of running over and killing a bicyclist in Perris, then attempting to flee the scene, was being held Friday in lieu of $75,000 bail.
Nathan Craig Rogers of Perris was arrested and booked Thursday night into the Robert Presley Jail in Riverside on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death.
About 8:30 p.m. Thursday, the victim was going through the intersection of Goetz and Mapes roads when his bike was impacted by a car, according to Riverside County sheriff’s officials.
Witnesses called 911, and the motorist allegedly tried to drive away, but his vehicle stalled, authorities said.
Paramedics pronounced the bicyclist — whose name has not been released — dead at the scene.
Rogers was arrested without incident near the intersection. Investigators have not yet confirmed whether alcohol or drugs may have been factors in the fatality.
